Calling Someone Non Muslim & Fatwa on Qadianis
Question:
Salam,
I was being told that we would never be questioned if we call a non-Muslim a Muslim but we will be questioned if we would call a Muslim a non-Muslim. Is this true? And is their any reliable FATWA stating Qadianis as non-Muslim since what they believe is kufr.
Answer:
Salam,
Abu Zarr reported that the prophet (pbuh) said: No man accuses another man of being a sinner, or of being a kafir, but it reflects back on him if the other is not as he called him.'' (Bukhari, Book of Ethics; Book 78, ch. 44)
When we call someone non-Muslim while he/she considers himself a Muslim, we are in fact accusing him to be not what he claims to be. Any accusation brings responsibility to the person who accuses.
However if we unjustifiably call a non-Muslim, Muslim, this will not be categorized as an accusation.
As for Qadianis (Ahmadies), having or not having fatwa about them being non-Muslims is not an issue. No individual or individuals (scholar or layman) has any authorities to announce a group to be non-Muslims. This authority only rests with the whole community of Muslims or the state of Muslims who is their representative (of course the views of the scholars can be used in order to reach the right decision).
Qadianies are considered to be non-Muslims simply because the whole community of Muslims, overall, and some of the states of Muslims have considered them to be Non-Muslims. However this does not mean that we can call Qadianies Kafir. Kafir is normally used for a more technical meaning. We can only consider them to be non-Muslims while maintaining a healthy relationship with them, just as we maintain a healthy relationship with any other human being.
