Creation of Matter
Question:
Sir, I have a question that is bit related with sofism, it is said that Allah was one & only before creation of this universe then he created the universe. so where from all other matter came into existence, and that's why sufis say that Allah turned himself into universe and He is allover? I need your clarification in this regard.
Answer:
Before answering the question I just want to clarify that I am aware and I do appreciate that the above argument and belief is not held by all Sufis. When we say 'Sufi' we are referring to many schools of thought who come under this name, each with its own beliefs and arguments.
My problem with the above argument is this: "so where from all other matter came into existence"
The answer is very simple, the 'other matter' came from Nothing (عدم). In fact this is exactly why one of the God's names is Creator (Khaliq).
Now in answering this if the person says: 'This is impossible', that means he is saying that something is impossible for God, which then goes against the definition of God, as a being who is capable of everything.
Please deliberate on the following verse:
بَديعُ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ إِذا قَضى أَمْراً فَإِنَّما يَقُولُ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُون
He is the originator of the heavens and the earth! When He decrees a thing, He need only say ‘Be’ and it is
