Did Prophet (pbuh) Performed Miracles (Follow Up)?
Question:
Salaam,
verse 13:7 states Those who refused to believe in you say;" why has no ( miraculous) sign been sent down upon him from his Lord? You are only a warner and every people has its guide." This suggest again that Quran is not suggesting that Prophet pbuh could perform miracles. Furthermore, Quran has mentioned the miracles of other prophets so why would it not mention the miracles given to Prophet pbuh? I am not clear why your own followers need to see miracles ? I thought miracles were aimed at the non believers. Believers had Prophet pbuh and Quran, were they not enough to convince them about the Truth?

Let us first agree a definition for 'miracle'. How about this:
"A miracle is an act that is beyond the capabilities of human beings, performed by a prophet, with the support of the Almighty, to convince the audience about the truth of his message."
If you do not agree with the above definition please let me know. If you do agree then look at the following verses:
------------------------------------------------
قل لئن اجتمعت الانس و الجنّ علي أن يأتوا بمثل هذا القرآن لايأتون بمثله ولوكان بعضهم لبعض ظهيراً
Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others (17:88)
ام يقولون افتراه قل فأتوا بسورة مثله وادعوا من استطعتم من دون اللّه ان كنتم صادقين
Or do they say: He has forged it? Say: Then bring a chapter like this and invite whom you can besides Allah, if you are truthful (10:38)
ام يقولون تقوّله بل لايؤمنون. فليأتوا بحديث مثله ان كانوا صادقين
Or do they say: He has forged it) Quran (Nay! They do not believe (52:33)
وان كنتم في ريب ممّا نزّلنا علي عبدنا فأتوا بسورة من مثله وادعوا شهدائكم من دون اللّه ان كنتم صادقين
And if you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like it and call on your witnesses besides God if you are truthful (2:23)
----------------------------------------------------
Would you not agree with me that the above verses are talking about a concept that fits the above definition (i.e. miracle)?

Is it not true that the companions of Jesus (pbuh) asked him for miracles to further strengthen their confidence (5:112-113)? Also Ibrahim (2:260) asked to see a miraculous phenomenon for his confidence.
What we learn from the above is that just as there were miracles to convince non-believers, there were also miracles to give believers more confidence and to prepare them for the big responsibility they had.
