Durood (Greetings) to the Prophet (pbuh)
Question:
Salam,
It is obligatory that whenever we hear or read name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) we have send Darood to him. I came to know that if the name is taken more then twice we can send Darood only twice and then it's no more obligatory. Is that true? And there are people's name like Dost Muhammad, Ghulam Mustafa. When we hear or say those names, is it again obligatory for us to send Darood?
Answer:
Salam,
The Qur’an in 33:56 advises us to pray for God’s blessing on the prophet (pbuh). This prayer does not need to be limited to when we hear his name, on the other hand it is not obligatory to do this prayer for the prophet (pbuh) when we hear his name. It is enough to make this prayer for the prophet (pbuh) whenever our heart is inclined to do it.
People at our time use to do this whenever they hear the prophet’s (pbuh) name. This is a very good practice but is not an obligation.
