French Beard
Question:
Salam, Sir
I have a french beard. Somebody came to me and told me one cannot make styles with beard and it is a sin. Is it true?
Thank you Regards
Answer:
I explained in an answer - Sunnah vs. Hadith (Follow Up 4: Beard) - that we do not have any evidences in the Qur'an or the Established Sunnah that keeping beard is a religious act, let alone being an obligation or shaving it being a sin.
As an obvious conclusion from the above I can also say that applying styles to the beard is not religiously forbidden. My only reservation is when that style makes the face of the person different from what you expect to see in a human being. This however is not due to any direct instructions of the Shari'ah, it is simply because I do not think that it is fit for a God aware human being to change his appearance in a way that distances him from what you would naturally expect to see when looking at a human being (and I do appreciate that this is a subjective criteria, sometimes depending on the culture and social norms).
As far as I know French beard is a style of beard where the person keeps the beard around his mouth and chin and shaves the rest. To me this is one of the styles of bead that has been used by many cultures for ages and cannot be categorised as changing the natural appearance of the face. Therefore I do not see any problems with that.
