Has God Failed?

Question:
Your view on verses 2:62 and 5:69 is different from the views of some of the other scholars although you seem to follow the same approach as that of some of these scholars (like Islahi and Ghamidi).

Doesn't this make Quran merely a book which is based upon subjectivity and don't you think that God has failed in making his message clear to mankind and no one is able to understand it for the last 1400 years except a few?

Answer:
The Qur'an is God revelation but it is in the form of a text and like any other text it is up to interpretation. This does not reduce any credits from the Qur'an.

In my view the primary reason for revelation of the Qur'an was to establish the Muslim ummah (community) and as I see it, this is firmly established. I therefore do not see any failure.

I think the statement "no one can understand It for the last 1400 years except a few" is exaggeration. The core message of the Qur'an is very clear and is not subject to interpretation, that is, believe in one God and doing righteous things.
