Listening to Blasphemy
Question:
Salam,
First of all thank you very very much for all the help and time you have given, it is highly appreciated.
My question is that we all know saying God forbids bad words for someone like Jesus is blasphemy but listnening to those words is bad but is it blasphemy too.
See what happened was that my cousin and I were watching an english movie. On that movie the actor Allah forbids said bad sentences and I just couldn't listen and told my cousin to stop the movie but he insisted since we haven't said anything so it's not blasphemy to listen and he kept on watching I guess since I left.
Could you please guide me in this matter?
Thank you

Salam,
Listening to blasphemous words can only be considered as blasphemy if it can be seen as contributing, supporting or approving it. If it is obvious that the person who is hearing blasphemous words is not doing any of this then listening to it cannot be considered as blasphemy.
As you correctly wrote, even if it is not blasphemy still it is not good to sit down and hear such words. A servant of God should avoid those things that God does not like.
As for the particular case that you referred to, the matter should be dealt with on a personal level and based on the personal preferences. For example one person may find it enough to simply express his disapproval and the fact that he felt offended, but continue to watch the movie if the rest of the movie does not contain such words. Just as another person may find it more appropriate to ask to stop the movie or to stop watching it, which is what you did and is also an appropriate reaction.
