Hopelessness
Question:
Salam,
It is being said "Mayoosi kufr hai" (hopelessness is Kufr). Now I know we should never be hopeless from Allah but is it kufr and does doing this make you kafir?
Answer:
Salam,
Kufr and Kafir have a very specific meaning that you can read about it in "Who Is Called Kafir?".
If a person becomes hopeless with regard to the Almighty because he thinks that God does not have power to help him, then this is of course a wrong understanding and such person is distancing himself from the concept of God that the Qur’an refers to.
If a person becomes hopeless with regard to the Almighty because he thinks God will not help him or will not forgive him, then this is a weak mind-set and a defective spiritual position.
From the above two cases, the first can ‘potentially’ make the person non-Muslim while the second can potentially weaken the spiritual motivation of the person. However as I wrote none, per se, makes the person Kafir.
