If I follow your view on riba!
Question:
AsalamuAlykum
If you are true to what you say regarding riba, can I hold you fully accountable if God ask me on the day of judgment regarding this matter. I request this of you as you are learned in this subject and I'm not.
Answer:
Alaykum Assalam
I am a human being and like any other human beings am prone to error. Nevertheless with my current understanding I am absolutely clear with my conscience and absolutely sure that my view on riba is correct (and I have it in my to-do list to write about this in detail).
Nevertheless, my answer to your question is: ‘absolutely not!’
If you follow me and it turns out that my view was wrong you cannot hold me responsible. This is simply because I never forced you to follow my views. It is entirely your choice to follow or not follow this view on riba. You will be held responsible based on whether your reason for choosing this was an honest one (no matter how basic or advanced that reason is).
Basically and in one categorisation, there are two views on riba:
Now, if you decide to follow the view of the latter group because you are honestly convinced that they are right, then you will be fine, even if it turns out at the end that they were wrong.
On the other hand, if you decide to follow the view of the latter group despite believing deep down that the view of the first group is correct then you may be held responsible for this even of it turns out that the latter view was correct. This is because you have knowingly acted against your conviction.
The choice therefore is entirely yours.
Please do let me know if you would like me to elaborate on any point.
