Interceding Through Saints
Question:
Many people visit tombs of famous Saints and ask the Saint to intercede on their behalf to God, to accept their different duas. For example a childless woman would go to the tomb of the Saint and ask the Saint to request God to give her a child. The dua is to God but through the Saint because they think that then their dua would be accepted. Is this allowed in Islam.?
Thank you
Answer:
You are asking whether requesting a medium to request God on our behalf is allowed in Islam. I list a few verses of the Qur’an and leave it to yourself to decide:
And your Lord says: Call me, I will answer you … (40:60)
Who is the one who answers the distressed when he appeals to him and recovers (him) from the ill (that has caused the distress) … (27:62)
Whenever My servants ask you about Me, then I am Near. I answer the appeal of the prayerful one when he appeals to Me so Let them respond to Me, and believe in Me so they may be directed (2:186)
to God alone all sincere faith is due. And yet, they who take protectors beside Him (argue), "We worship them for no other reason than that they bring us nearer to God." ... (39:3)
