Making Up for a Huge Number of Missed Fasts
Question:
Aoa.
Jizak Allah for this beautiful website. May Allah help you in continuing it.
I wanted to ask about missed fasts. I understand, everyone has to make up the missed fasts sometime in future if they are healthy and are able to fast. But my Question is what if you have a lot of missed fasts? Unfortunately piled up over years and years and you don't even have an idea of the total number? But now you have realized and want to make up for it but as the number Is so much, it's overwhelming and practically very hard and difficult to accomplish? What's the best advice in that case?
Thank you very much.

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah
Thanks a lot for your payers.
As for not knowing the total number of missed fasts, the person has to come up with an estimation. As long as the estimation is made with all honesty it does not matter how rough it is.
As for having to make up a huge amount of missed fasts, this is my suggestion:
The person has to draft a regular schedule for fasting based on his best abilities. He can then write a note on his wasiyah (inheritance document) to let his wasi (successor) know how many missed fasts he had, how many he was trying to cover each year and from what year he started this. He can then write an instruction for the wasi to use this data to calculate the number of missed fasts that he was yet to cover at the time of his death. The instruction then will advise the wasi to feed equal number of poor (i.e. to the number of missed fasts that were not made up) from the money that he has left.
