Not Being Able to Pray Due to Work
Question:
I work in a busy schedule, and sometimes when it calls for prayer, i don't get time to go and pray because there is no one else to stay in duty on behalf of me. So for an example, i was on duty when it called for Magrib and Isha. I finish my duty at 23:30 or 01:00. in that case as i have not got time and place to pray, if i pray after duty will my prayer be accepted ? by then, it will be too late for prayer, but i had no possible way to pray until i finish my duty.
Answer:
If it is possible for you to read your prayers while in duty even if it means doing it while standing or while sitting, without it affecting your duties, then it is better to do that. If not, then try to accommodate your prayers within their due time by combining Zur and Asr, and combing Maghrib and Isha.
If it is possible to re-adjust your job specifications by negotiating with your employer so that you can find a very short peaceful time to pray, then do that.
I should also add that I find it very difficult that a person would not be able to pray during his/her job. If we take away the non-obligatory parts, each prayer takes at most 3 minutes of our time. Do you not use even more than that to attend to your natural needs like call of nature or having some food? Are you saying that your supervisor allows you to go to toilet for (say) 10 - 15 minutes but does not allow you to pray for 2 - 4 minutes? Even if I need to pray with tayammum, not fully prostrating, not accurately towards qibla, not standing, I still prefer to read my prayers within their time or by combing them in the prescribed time, rather than doing them after their due time.
Prayer is a duty that should not be abandoned. At the same time we are excused for shortcomings that are caused due to situations beyond our control. If none of the above are possible for you, then I consider your situation to be such a case. In such case, then read your prayers as soon as you can, even if they are out of the due time, Insha'Allah they will be accepted.
