Pictures of Jesus Christ (pbuh)

Question:

Salam,

Sir I wanted to ask you that the picture or statue that christians have of Jesus Christ (PBUH), is it real picture of Jesus Christ (PBUH) or not?
And since we Muslims also believe on every Prophet and messengers who came before Muhammad (PBUH), if we saw that picture lying on the road or ground, is it our Islamic duty to pick it up and put it on cleaner place or not?

Thank You Regards

Answer:

Salam,

As far as I know there are no reliable evidences to tell us in a specific way, how Jesus (pbuh) looked like. I therefore do not think that the painted images of Jesus (pbuh) are showing us his real face.

Picking up a painting of Jesus (pbuh) is not an obligation and a religious duty, however it is a sign of respecting our own belief as well as respecting people who hold fundamentally the same belief as ours (people of the book). Whether the picture is authentic or not has no bearing in this.
