Question:

what is the method of performing salat ul tasbeeh?
JazakAllah
Answer:
Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah,
Please bear in mind that the reliability of the reports on prayer of Tasbih is under question. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with reading this prayer and with correct intentions insha’Allah it will be very rewarding.
The method of the prayer of Tasbih, on the basis of hadith is as follows:
Read four rak’ahs (units of prayer) either in two sets or in one go. You read these prayers like normal prayers but with adding a zikr (supplication) in certain numbers at specific points of the prayer.
The zikr that you will say is: Subhan Alah wa alhamdulilah wa la ilaha illallah wa Allahu akbar (glory to God and gratitude to God and there is no god but God and God is greatest)
You say the above as follows:
- 15 after reading the sura after fatiha in each rik’ah
- 10 in roku’ (bowing)
- 10 after standing up from ruku
- 10 in each sujud (prostration)
- 10 after each sujud
This is a total of 75 in each rak’ah and 300 altogether (during the four rik’ah)
The hadith recommends doing this every day or every Friday or once a month or once a year or at least once in the lifetime.
