Selling Pork and Non-Zabiha Meat
Question:
Are we allowed to sell Non-Zabiha meat including pork? I am trying to open a restaurant in which there will be Non-Zabiha chicken and meat, may be pig too. I am not sure of the legality of the act. Please confirm if this is halal.
Answer:
In principle when you consider something to be haram then it is not moral for your to sell it to others. How can you promote and sell something to others that yourself consider to be bad?
There could be some flexibility in this if you were saying that you were only a member of staff in the place and had therefore no choice. However since you are going to be the owner of the place I do not see any excuses.
Being more specific about your question, pork is definitely haram so selling it is in principle not allowed. What is called non-zabiha meat is according to the majority of Muslims haram and according to some (including me) not haram. There is therefore more flexibility there as the ruling itself is a matter of interpretation.
