Two Points for My Young Friends
Do one thing, and Do Not do another things:
- The thing to do:
Spiritual investment, don't miss it!
The older you become, the busier, the more responsible and the less sensitive you will be. As you grow you will find that your heart (your conscious) is gradually losing some of that 'softness' and 'absorbing ability' that it had when you were younger.
Therefore:
As much as possible, build your relationship with your Lord at this young age. As much as possible build your relationship with the Qur'an at this young age. Try to establish features like Tawakkul (Trusting God), Riza (Satisfaction with God), Tabattul (Devoting time for worshiping God) and Tafakkur (Thinking about God) as well as Makarim al-Akhlaq (High level of moralities) in yourself at this age.
It is much easier to establish the above and other positive qualities at a young age. Also this will be an investment for your future. You will see that these will become very handy for you (and those depending on you) when you become older.
- The thing NOT to do:
Haya (Modesty), don't lose it!
The first time your face goes red, the fist time you find what your friends are doing or saying shameful and disrespectful, the first time your eyes, ears, thought goes to something that you feel is not clean, is not pure, is not nice, the first time it happens, turn away, look another way, leave the room, close your eyes, show your discomfort, stop it if you can.
Haya is one of the most valuable qualities that human being has. The best servants of God had extreme Haya (Modesty) in their daily routine. Haya is a sign of being servant of God, and not having Haya is a sign of being arrogant.
If we are hoping to look towards our Lord, to be among His best servants in the hereafter, then we need to keep our Haya intact. How is it possible that an eye that was used to look at everything or a tongue that was used to say anything looks at the Lord or talk in presence of the Lord in the hereafter? How is it possible that a person who has little Haya could be in the same place as the righteous people in the hereafter?
The problem and the difficulty with Haya is that it is like water that you are holding in your hands, once you open your hands, it is gone!
If the person lets his/her Haya to drop, it will be very difficult for him/her to gain it again. It is not impossible, but it will take much time and much effort to regain it.
So, at this young age, when you are engaged with many activities and many people, while there are lots of temptations and energies going through your system, make sure that whatever you do, you will not let your Haya go. If you have already let it going, try to get it back while you are still young.
