Creation of Matter (Follow Up)
Question:
A couple of years back I was reading a books of Dr Zakir Naik in which he argued that ALLAH did not say that he does or can do everything. HE rather said that "HE does what HE wills" and "HE has control on everything". So Dr Zakir Naik says that this argument that ALLAH can do everything is not taught by ALLAH.
What is your views on that? And where did we get this idea from?
Answer:
My understanding is that Dr Naik's statement is to answer those questions that are logically inconsistent, for instance if God can do anything then why he would not become a human being, or if He can do anything then does this mean He can do things that are evil, etc.
All these questions are based on inconsistent bases. Dr. Naik questions the statement that God can do anything and replaces it with the statement that God can do anything that He wants. He correctly points out that the Qur'an supports the second statement and not the first.
What I wrote in my original answer to the question of Creation of Matter was: "a being who is capable of everything". The elelemnt that is embodied in this statement is that He is capablle of everything 'godly'. This means He does not do anything that goes against the concept of God, not because He cannot do it, but because God doing anything ungodly goes against the very definition of God.
Looking it from this perspective I do appreciate that I could have made my statement more accurate by writing:
"a being who is capable of doing everything He wants"
