Eating with Non-Muslims

Question:

Is it haraam to eat with my non muslim classmates (girls) or eat from their tiffin .... canteen in our college is run by non muslims..... workers of our hostel are non muslims....... please give me a way out....

Answer:

There is nothing wrong with eating with non-Muslims. As for their food you need to observe the following conditions:

- You cannot eat a food that is Haram, like pork or alcohol
- You cannot eat the meat of a Halal animal that is sacrificed for idols or is taken from carrion.

Other than the above, you may consume any other food that is made and offered to you by a non-Muslim.
I think practically you will find that in most cases it is only the first condition that you need to deal with.
