Revelation of the Qur'an and the Night of Qadr

Question:

Assalam O Alikum,

Quran says quran is revealed in the holy night of Qadar but this is also a fact Quran is revealed in 23 years ,How would you reconcile the two facts regarding revelation of Quran.

Answer:

The Qu’an has referred to any part of the book as 'the Qur’an', 'the book' or simply by the pronoun ‘it'.
Using the name of the whole to refer to part of the whole is a known style of language in Arabic and many other languages.

One example from among many:

هُوَ الَّذي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتابَ

“He is the one who sent to you the Book” (3:7)

Obviously the Qur’an was not completed when this verse was revealed, yet the verse refers to the portion that has been revealed that far as Kitab (the Book).

The revelation of the Qur’an was started at the night of Qadr.
