  • Heart to Heart

These are my not very academic and politically correct reflections and thoughts. They are coming from my heart and I hope they may sit on the hearts.

Useless Irremovable Button!

I'm a Three Times Victim of Terrorism!

21/2/2013

So the news today said that they have got some Muslims in Birmingham who were planning to do worse than the 7th July bombing in London.
Whether these guys are really guilty of the accusation or not is another matter but this reminded me of a feeling I have whenever I hear there are Muslims who try to kill innocent people in the name of Islam. I always feel that people like me are three times victim of these acts of terrorism:

A. As a member of the public I too am in risk of being blown up. Even if those who may blow me up think that they are helping me going to heaven I certainly have not asked their help for this and would like to live my life in full before departing this world.

B. I am sure that many of those guys who who kill innocent people look quite similar to me! I have beard and I am not originally from Europe. I believe people need to be open minded and do not discriminate, however I cannot help but feel that sometimes
people might look at me not in a very nice way.

C. The people who do these horrible crimes are doing it in the name of the religion that I adhere to and I love. So they are actually giving bad names to my belief.

Conclusion:
I am more keen than many others to either correct these misguided people or to stop them before they make people like me their three times victims.

It's All for you!

18/2/2013

All this race, all this rush, all the laughs, cries, emotions, worries, craziness, all this struggle that we see around, these are all for one reason, to satisfy our desires for perfection, even if it is for a bad cause. All this desire for perfection comes because of you, because you are the only perfect and you blew from your spirit to us, so we have your signature on us, we have your touch on us, we are missing you, therefore we are looking for you, and many times we do not know it is you that we are looking for, so we go to other directions, but at the end, it is all because we are missing you. He himself has said:
يا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسانُ إِنَّكَ كادِحٌ إِلى‏ رَبِّكَ كَدْحاً فَمُلاقيه                                                                          ‏

As Much as Nothing

18/2/2013

I always think one of the signs of a person who is so closed to God and so beloved by Him is that he is among the most humble and selfless people. When you are with them, you do not feel a burden on your shoulder, they are like a breeze, they do not make much noise when they come and when they go, but their presence is pleasant, yet, so light and simple. It is only after a long time has passed and you have not seen such person that you start realising what a valuable person he/she was and what a blessing it was to be in his/her presence.

The Ability to Appreciate

16/2/2013

I read this great story of a scholar who used to walk respectfully around the grave of an atheist. His students asked him why did he show that respect for an atheist, he answered: "he was a great poet!".
This ability to distinguish between goods and bads in a person is what we are missing today. We tend to either accept a person as a whole or to reject him as a whole. I love a song that is read by a British singer. It reminds me of the peace that a believer gets after his death. Not that the song is about that, it just makes that effect on me. I said this to a friend and he said "but that singer has a very serious and known moral problem", and I thought, "so what? I appreciate his art, not his personality".
Is it too much out of order if I say that I am a student of Islam, and I like the style of Richard Dawkins when he debates, even though he debates as an atheist?

The Art of Listening

14/2/2013

As we grow we gradually lose our ability to fully listen to a person's views and arguments before trying to answer him. From the moment that the person is arguing against our thought we normally try to think how we are going to answer it. There are some expressions that are no longer popular among us, expressions like:
"I want to know your view on this"
"I will think about your reasoning"
"I have not formed any views on this yet"

and the most beloved and missed expression (that Imam Malik used to say a lot when people asked him questions:

"I do NOT know."

The Only Reason

13/2/2013

There can be and there are many valid reasons, but for me, the only reason I believe God exists and Muhammad (pbuh) is His last messenger is the Qur'an.
